Rachel Northrop holds a PhD in English from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.

Her research areas include 20th-Century United States literature, Black feminism, Native and Indigenous critical theories, social studies of finance, economics and ecocriticism, dance and embodiment. Rachel has worked as a public school teacher and writer for the coffee import/export industry. She is trained in ballet, modern, Afrobrazilian samba, and Afrocuban folkloric dance.

Born and raised in New Hampshire, Rachel has lived in Spain, New York, and Costa Rica. She is currently based in Miami.
